About me

Lou Jansen is a full-time artist known for her surrealistic and modern impressionistic paintings that depict animals and their struggles in the 21st century. Originally from the Dutch countryside, Lou developed a deep connection to art and design at a young age. Her early projects, such as creating sustainable handbags for her final high school assignment, showcased her commitment to creativity and environmental consciousness.

Before transitioning into the art world, Lou had a successful career as a freelance UX designer. However, her lifelong love for animals and her growing concern for animals and specifically endangered species inspired her to fully dedicate herself to her passion for painting.

This love began with her deep bond with her horse, leading to the realisation, "If I wouldn’t harm my horse, how could I eat any animal?" This conviction has become the foundation of her art practice.

Lou’s vibrant animal paintings, created using oils, aerosols, and acrylics, tell stories of the beauty and challenges faced by animals. Her bold and captivating style features flowing brushstrokes, vibrant colors, and emotional depth, blending imagination with reality to connect viewers with the natural world.

Each piece begins with careful research and planning, allowing Lou to craft a meaningful narrative that touches on the connection between human actions and the environment.

Working from her beachside studio in Australia, Lou draws inspiration from the ocean, her emotions, and extensive research on animal welfare. She aims to inspire viewers to see the world differently, to discover new perspectives on environmental conservation, and to appreciate the unique role we all play in protecting the planet.

As Lou Jansen continues to produce her prolific body of work, she remains committed to raising awareness for endangered animals and promoting compassion through art.
